Data Analysis

Why Data Analysis Matters

Data analysis helps coaches and candidates make informed decisions that lead to meaningful changes in teaching and learning. When coaches support candidates in collecting, interpreting, and reflecting on data, it builds the candidate’s capacity to respond to student needs with intention and clarity.

In the CTI coaching model, data is not used for judgment. It is a tool for reflection, inquiry, and continuous improvement. Through thoughtful conversations about data, candidates learn to recognize patterns, set goals, and adjust their practice to support all learners.

According to the CTI Coaching Standards, reflective coaches who use data effectively:

• Guide candidates in identifying relevant data sources
• Support data interpretation without assigning judgment
• Encourage inquiry and goal setting based on evidence
• Promote a reflective cycle that connects data to student outcomes

When coaches and candidates use data collaboratively, it strengthens professional decision-making and supports equitable, student-centered practices.
