Induction Eligibility

2024-2025 Candidate Eligibility

Who is Eligible?
Teachers identified by their employing agencies that are partnered with the CTI Induction Program and meet the following: 1. TK-12th grade *teaching assignment approved by the employing agency that includes access to instruct students on a regular basis in order to complete focused cycles of inquiry. 2. California teaching credentials eligible for induction:
        • Preliminary General Education or Education Specialist that has a renewal code shown in the chart below.
        • Executive Order Preliminary Credentials.
        • Variable Term Waivers and intern extension credentials may be eligible with an evaluation by the credential care team.
*Teaching assignment: CTI program standards allow flexibility in teaching assignments eligible for induction enrollment. Candidates do not need to be the teacher of record. Assignments can be part-time, co-teaching, alternative settings, etc. Please contact the credential care team at ctisupport@rcoe.us for eligible teaching assignments for candidates you wish to approve for induction in your agency.

Note: Teachers who are in the process of receiving their preliminary credential within 3-6 months of enrollment may participate on a non-credential track with the approval of their employer’s induction representative.
Who is Not Eligible?

  1. Day-to-day substitutes are not eligible for induction per CTC policy because the assignment of working with different groups of students each day does not support induction requirements and completing cycles of inquiry.
  2. Teaching assignment in a setting where the candidate Will Not have access to the same group of students for at least 75% of a semester term, August-December or January-June that supports completing the induction cycles of inquiry (Employing agencies or candidates can email ctisupport@rcoe.us to confirm approval of teaching assignment if needed).
  3. Teaching assignments that are not within a TK-12 setting content authorization area.

Note: Some credentials may also require completion of CTC statutory credentials requirements (English Learner Authorization, CPR, basic skills, etc.) in addition to induction for a clear credential.  Candidates with additional requirements will be notified by CTI Credential Services after completing the registration process.

Early Completion Option (ECO)

Induction programs are designed to be completed by candidates during a two-year period as beginning teachers.  Experienced and exceptional candidates may be placed in the ECO one-year induction program with the approval of the agency representative.

Eligibility

Verification

Experienced and exceptional candidate with a minimum of one year of exceptional  (above satisfactory) *teaching experience in a TK-12 setting within the last two school years before initial enrollment in our induction program.

  1. Copy of an official performance evaluation showing:
          1. Employing Agency
          2. Overall rating of Exceptional (above satisfactory) for one year.
          3. School year of employment.
  1. A letter from a school administrator or supervisor on the employer’s letterhead stating:
          1. Teaching assignment/position.
          2. Exceptional (above satisfactory) performance while teaching.
          3. Period of employment for at least one recent school year prior to induction program enrollment.

ECO Approval Deadline Dates

December 15th for traditional candidates
and April 1st  for mid-year candidates. 

Enrollment Periods

The CTI induction program offers two-enrollment periods to candidates to provide high-quality mentoring support to new teachers. Our traditional enrollment period is closely aligned with most agency’s academic calendars when most new teachers start their teaching assignments. Our mid-year enrollment is intended for new teachers who are late-hire to their agencies and need to be connected with a mentor as soon as possible for success in their teaching assignment.

Traditional

  • Candidates may enroll August 3rd – October 31st .
  • The program year is August 3rd – June 30th .
  • Induction requires active engagement in the mentoring process for the enrolled year. Candidates must be in an active teaching assignment, no less than 75% of the school year and have a minimum of 28 weeks of reflective coach support to be eligible for completion credit for a full year of induction.
  • The clear credential recommendation process, for candidates who have completed all requirements, will begin after May 1st for this enrollment period.

Mid-Year

  • Candidates may enroll from December 1st – February 28th.
  • The program year consists of two semesters. January 1st of the enrollment year through December 31st of the following school year.
  • In consideration of the limited work-day holiday calendar, candidates will consult with their agency representative to determine the best start date.
  • Candidates may begin engaging in induction activities right away after the December 1st enrollment date, or they may begin engaging in induction activities upon returning from winter break.
  • Induction requires active engagement in the mentoring process for the enrolled semester. Candidates must be in an active teaching assignment no less than 75% of the enrolled semester and receive a minimum of 14 weeks of reflective coach support to be eligible for completion credit for a full semester of induction (minimum of 28 weeks for a full year of induction completion).
  • The clear credential recommendation process, for candidates that have completed all requirements, will begin after November 1st  of the following school year for this enrollment period.
